About Me

My name is Magda Jiménez-Porter and I am a native Spanish speaker from Colombia. One of the most important things that I want you or your child to understand is that there is nothing wrong with you, your brain just works differently, and we just need to find the path that works for you and your brain to unlock your potential.

I have a B.S. in Marine Biology and a Masters of Education in Special Education with a concentration in Dyslexia. I am a Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT) and a licensed Dyslexia Therapist in the state of Texas (TDLR License Number 2796). I am also certified to teach Early Childhood through 6th Grade in the State of Texas.

When I moved to the United States I came across teaching, fell in love with it, and completed my training to become a Bilingual teacher in the state of Texas. I taught for 14 years before completing my Masters of Education in Special Education.

Throughout my years teaching in the classroom and tutoring, I came across many students who were very bright but didn’t feel that way because they struggled with reading, writing, and/or math.

I strived to find teaching methods that addressed their learning styles and helped them build self-confidence. I also provided them with the tools they needed to become independent readers and lifelong learners.

This is the main reason I decided that the next chapter in my educational career was to become a dyslexia therapist. I use my experience as a classroom teacher and tutor, along with the dyslexia training I have completed, to help children and adults become successful readers.

It’s also my goal to aid students whose home language is different from English and might be struggling to learn how to read in addition to learning or mastering English as a second language, just as I had to do when I came to the US.

As we progress through the program, I will teach you or your child the skills to become a more confident, independent reader who is ready to take on any goal you have for the future.
